CALIFORNIA BANKRUPTCY FORUM
Message from the President
Vincent M. Coscino
WELCOME TO THE CALIFORNIA BANKRUPTCY FORUM
Thank you for your interest in our State Forum. The CBF is dedicated to providing educational and networking opportunities to our approximately 1,500 members. The California Bankruptcy Forum's goal, through education and mentoring, is to promote the highest standards in the practice of insolvency and bankruptcy law.
Founded in 1990, the California Bankruptcy Forum's membership is made up of a wide range of outstanding professionals. Attorneys, federal bankruptcy judges and trustees, accountants, receivers, auctioneers, bankers, brokers, turn-around specialists, reorganization and business consultants are some of the professionals who make up the preponderance of the Forum's constituency.
There are seven autonomous Forum chapters throughout the state which fall under our nonprofit corporate umbrella. These chapters are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, the Central Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire and San Diego. Each Forum is managed by its own Board of Directors, with the representatives of each local Forum comprising the State Board of Directors. These chapters separately provide their members with locally held educational programs during the year, as well as other social functions designed to provide networking opportunities for insolvency professionals in each of their respective communities.
Each year, in May, the California Bankruptcy Forum Annual Conference is held in various locations throughout the State. In 2008, the Conference will be held in Indian Wells at the beautiful Hyatt Grand Champions Resort & Spa. Highlights of the 2008 Conference will include a keynote speaker at the opening luncheon, followed by the traditional judges' roundtable discussions. The 2008 Conference will be a wonderful opportunity for insolvency professionals throughout the State to attend outstanding educational presentations highlighting important new case law and the ever popular judicial program discussing significant issues and views from the bench. The Conference will offer 7.5 to 10.5 hours of MCLE and CPE credit. Following the educational sessions, attendees and their families may compete in golf and other sports events and enjoy Saturday evening's very special social gathering.
The California Bankruptcy Forum publishes a scholarly journal called the California Bankruptcy Journal. It is available on WestLaw and has been cited in approximately 70 published opinions, including those of the U.S. Supreme Court. The Journal is edited by leading bankruptcy practitioners, professors and judges throughout the country. The Co-Editors in Chief of the Journal are Jeffrey I. Golden and Eric P. Israel.
Please take the time to explore our website to learn about events in the local Forums, to learn about our members and to access other bankruptcy and insolvency education sites. The CBF website is maintained by a dedicated committee chaired by Laurel Zaeske.
Hopefully, you will be inspired to participate in one of the CBF local or State events. If so, I look forward to the opportunity of personally welcoming you.
My best regards,
Vincent M. Coscino
2007-2008 President
